Outside Watering Can Resume Effective Monday, August 15th

We are now producing water and the tanks are full!

It took a bit of work to clear the mud, silt and sand from the system, due to last week’s thunderstorm activity, but that work was completed yesterday.

We do ask that members refrain from outdoor watering this week in order to give the entire system time to equalize.

Anyone in the downtown area that needs to hose down or power wash their residence or business, however, is free to do so.

Thank you for your conservation efforts over this past week, and for your continued efforts over the next few days.

Outdoor watering can resume Monday, August 15th.

Outside Watering Prohibited Until Further Notice

Due to yesterday’s thunderstorms, and the over two (2) inches of rain that we received in about an hour, we’ve had to switch over to wells completely.

Since this substantially lowers the amount of water available, our Operator, Buck McLelland, is requiring all members to stop outside watering until further notice.

All other Water Use Rules and Guidelines, posted July 23, 2022, remain in effect.

Water Use Rules and Guidelines Have Been Updated

At the quarterly board meeting last Saturday, the Board of Directors updated the rules and guidelines.

Effective today, the restrictions that were in place post-Tamarack Fire have been rolled back.

A couple items of note:

  • Since pressure or power washing can put a signifcant load on the system depending on time of day, it is not allowed w/o specific permission. Please fill out the form on our Contact Us page and someone will contact you.
  • Rain events affect the processing of water. When the turbidity-levels get too high in the creek we have to switch over to well water and that lessens the amount of water that can be produced.

It’s likely, based on drought predictions for CA, that more restrictive rules and guidelines will need to be put in place.

We will make that determination at the June meeting, and encourage your attendance at that meeting, as well as all meetings.

Limited Landscape Watering Allowed Starting Wednesday!

First and foremost, THANK YOU for following the previously issued restrictions and helping to conserve. You’ve done an amazing job!

Because of your efforts we’re able to allow for
some landscape watering starting this coming week.

A huge thank you also to Kris Hartnett, one of our directors; past-president, Steve Martin; and Buck McLelland, our operator, for their efforts in keeping things flowing. Be sure to say thanks or buy them a beer when you see ’em!

Landsape watering guidelines. Note that the plan recognizes full weeks only, that it resets each new calendar month and there is NO watering allowed other than weeks 1-4.

Upcoming Board Meeting This Saturday – at the Fire Station

We’ll be meeting in-person this Saturday, August, 21, 2021, starting at 8:30 a.m., at Station 92, 799 Hot Springs Road, in Markleeville.

On the agenda are many items, including the election of one (1) director, with substantial time set aside for the following:

  • Operations Report
  • Systems Condition Report (clean-up, MWC’s plant infrastructure, collection gallery status, and more)
  • Status of MWC’s insurance claim
  • Status of the CA Dept. of Emergency Services claim
  • NRCS Emergency Watershed Restoration Program
  • Water-use restrictions

That’s not a complete list, by the way. Go to our Important Documents Page, and scroll down to “Board Meeting Agendas (current year),” to view the entire agenda.

We’ve got a lot to cover and members and qualified persons are strongly encouraged to attend.

Masks are required.

Water-Use Restrictions in Effect Due to the Tamarack Fire

Due to the fire we are severely restricted in the amount of water we can produce daily. We can currently reliably produce approximately 35,000 gallons of water daily and it must be “spread around” as much as possible. Normal summer months’ daily use is 110,000 to 120,000 gallons.

Because we can provide for only the minimum domestic usage, the following water use restrictions are enacted July 24, 2021 and remain in effect until further notice. 

You may use the water for domestic indoor-use only!

That means:

  • For drinking – Note that Marklee Village is under a boil-water notice. Read this post for more information.
  • For cooking
  • For washing – Please be water-wise when taking a shower or doing laundry
  • To flush toilets – Please flush sparingly.

The following are prohibited uses:

  • Washing structures – even those sprayed with fire-retardant
  • Washing cars or RVs
  • Irrigation/Landscape watering of any kind – this includes automatic sprinklers and drip-irrigation systems
  • Filling pools or outdoor ponds.

When you return home, whether by escort or permanently, turn off automated landscape sprinklers; check all indoor and outdoor fixtures for leaks, and repair any that you may find.

We are doing all we can to restore our system to normal, but due to the fire, we are severely hampered.

We ask for your patience as we, and you, work to get back to some semblance of normal after/during the devastation caused by the fire.
