Good Progess Being Made On Our New Water Main

First of all, a huge thank you, Members, for your patience.

We realize that the pilot car, stop lights, flagpersons, road closures, bumpy road, iron plates, and other “fun” on Hot Springs Road, and Pleasant Valley Road, has been a bit trying, and we can’t thank you enough for enduring (and continuing to endure) all of that.

We are making good progress, and all teams are working diligently towards accomplishing our goals. We sincerely hope it hasn’t been too distruptive. We are doing what we can to reduce that disruption, though.

For example, we were asked by the team if they could work on Saturday, September 21st, but because of all the events happening locally we declined.

Obviously there is still work to be done; we appreciate your continued understanding and cooperation. Speaking of which…

The October Board Meeting Will Be In-Person Only

The meeting will take place in the downstairs conference room at the Markleeville Public Library, 270 Laramie Street, Markleeville, CA 96120, on Saturday, October 19th at 8:30 a.m.

For the latest intel. on the project come to the meeting and hear directly from our president, Mary Young and our operator, Kris Hartnett.

We’ll cover other business too, as usual. The agenda, once ready, will be posted here.

Our First Board Meeting of the Year Will Be In-Person

News and Updates From MWC

Fritz Thornburg

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of pioneer, cowboy and MWC volunteer, Fritz Thornburg. That’s him in the cowboy hat, back in 2021, yakking with others about our local geography.

Fritz left us on September 9th and joined his beloved wife, Nancy, in that great water company in the sky. Fritz was integral to the formation of our little water company. Not only was he there in the beginning but he has been there throughout, helping with trenching, locating pipes, digging holes, and just a few months ago, meeting with the engineers at West-Yost regarding our water improvement project. His knowledge is irreplaceable and his loss leaves a void in our hearts, and certainly in his family’s hearts, too.

Our condolences go out to the entire Thornburg family.

RIP Fritz and thank you for all you’ve done for our community.

Annual Meeting Minutes and Financials, and Elections of Two Board Members

The annual meeting minutes were approved by mail and the members also elected Kris Hartnett to another term on the Board, and elected Dr. Rich Harvey as the newest member of the Board. Rich has already jumped in and participated in his first meeting earlier this month.

Thank you Kris for continuing to devote so much of your time to keep our water system running. Without you things would be much more challenging, if not impossible.

And Rich, your willingness to help our community in myriad ways (this is yet another one) is so appreciated! We look forward to your continued contributions.

The minutes and financials have been posted to our Agendas, Forms, Minutes & MORE page.

No More Wood at the Pleasant Valley Tank

As you may recall from this post, there was wood available to all members at the Pleasant Valley tank. All wood has now been moved, though, and can be found at Turtle Rock Park.

Upcoming Meetings – Quarterly Board Meeting and Annual Meeting

Our 1st meeting of the 3rd quarter of 2022 WILL NOT be held on the usual 3rd Saturday (7-16) due to the Deathride taking place that day.

Instead, the meeting will be held on Saturday, July 23rd. It will be in-person (at the Markleeville Library) and via Zoom. The meeting starts at 8:30 a.m.

Our Annual Meeting will take place on Saturday, August 6th and it will take place at the Alpine County Administration Building Board Room (99 Water St., Markleeville) in-person and via Zoom. The meeting starts at 10:00 a.m.

Agendas for both meetings, as well as previous meeting minutes, operations reports, financials, and Consumer Confidence Reports can all be found on our Important Documents page so feel free to do whatever homework you need to in advance of these meetings.

While participation of members and qualified persons is always encouraged at any meeting, IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT at the Annual Meeting where a quorum of members (approx. 40) is needed in order for elections to be held on that date. Other important business also calls for a quorum.

Attending that meeting either in-person or virtually would help us eliminate having to send a lot of materials, and ballots, via mail, and would also make the meeting more productive for everyone.

To RSVP for either meeting, email us at markleevillewatercompany@gmail.com.
